New family member (long) (pics forthcoming)
My husband and I have welcomed a new addition to the family. Her name is Valkyrie, and she is a tortiseshell-ish longhaired kitten with red patches on her ears, face, legs and tail. She was 8 weeks old last Friday.
Background: Our friends were adopted by a cat that they named Psycho because she would purr and snuggle up to you, then bite and claw you to ribbons. This changed as they worked with her, but she hates the dog.
While they were away on a trip she got out of the house and got laid with at least two male cats.
Psycho is a calico shorthair with fine boning and a wedge-shaped head, looks part Siamese or something.
It's possible that one dad had long hair and one short, because Valkyrie's brothers and sisters range from short almost wiry hair to long haired and fluffy.
Valkyrie is fluffy and long haired. When we got home, our older cat, Blondie, hid under the bed and sulked. I had to haul him out and shut the bedroom door. He perked up after a few hours of petting, placing on his perches, and informing him that yes, he is still Top Cat and NOT being replaced.
We have been confining Val to a cage/den in the dining room so that she has her own space while we are at work. Naturally, she's hating it, but it's the best we can do right now. It has a blanket covering it and everything she needs inside. (keeps him out of her food as well)
Today Blondie has been trilling at her and she meows and follows him around the house.
Her New Kitty appointment with our vet is Thursday evening.
Hopefully Psycho didn't catch anything nasty to pass on to the kittens.
